Paver base — Washington, DC

Last updated: September 24, 2026

What affects the price

Several things change the final quote for a hardscape project. The biggest factor is the size of the area you want covered, followed by the specific materials you choose. Natural stone, for example, usually costs more than standard concrete pavers. You also have to consider site prep; if the ground needs significant grading or old materials removed, that adds labor hours. Complex patterns, retaining walls, or built-in features like fire pits will also shift your budget. We can get you an exact pricing confirmed free on the call.

About this service

The paver base is the compacted layer of crushed stone or gravel installed beneath your pavers to prevent shifting and sinking. It is the most important part of any hardscape project because it provides a solid foundation for drainage and stability. If you notice your current patio sinking or pooling water, your base likely failed. A properly installed sub-base ensures your pavers remain level and smooth for years to come.
